Stock Investing Tips For Beginners – Making Sound Investment Decisions

Much of my investment strategies are derived from fundamental investing and value investing. I adopt strategies similar to Warren Buffett not simply because he is a well known investor but because they make the most sense to me.

That is the key to successful stock investing. Do not listen to anyone just because you think he is more experienced in stock investing then you are. Rather, seek to think and analyze and read more on your own before deciding which strategy best suits you. Once you have developed your own investment philosophy, stick to it and trust only yourself.

My Investment Philosophy

1. Do not lose money.

As many people already know, Warren Buffett famously put forth his two rules in stock investing in a humorous way in which Rule number 1 is “Never Lose money” while rule number 2 is ” Do not forget rule number 1″.

Capital preservation is important because a stock that has lost half its value will need to double in value before you get back to where you started. That is why you must be extremely cautious in your choice of stocks and that brings us to rule number 2.

2. Having a Margin of Safety

The margin of safety, simply put is a buffer that you put in place between what you perceive to be the value of the stock and its price. If you value a stock to be worth 1 dollar and you only buy it if its price is 50cents, then your margin of safety is 50 percent.

Deciding how much margin of safety you should give to a stock varies for companies in different industries and is another topic in itself.

In summary, a margin of safety is necessary to protect your capital in case you were wrong in your initial assessment of a stock pick. That way, even if you were wrong, you would have purchased the stock at a much lower price then if you had not catered for a margin of safety.

3. Invest for the Long Term

There is no way to time the market, but many people seem to think other wise. They buy when the stock dips slightly and hopes that in the near future they can sell it for a profit. These people usually adopt a “hit and run” strategy where they are contented with making a few 100 dollars every time they make a trade. They also have a cut loss strategy where they will exit the market if the price drops beyond a certain amount within days of purchasing the stock.

The truth about the stocks market is that real money is made in a few days. If you are frequently entering and exiting the market, chances are that during the few days of a real rally in price, you won’t be in the market, thus missing out on earnings.

Investing for the long term also saves you on commissions paid to the broker, capital gain taxes and puts the power of compounding into play. The difference between trading in the market and buying for the long term is significant and should not be ignored.

4. Knowing when to sell and when not to sell

Even though I advocate investing for the long term, that doesn’t mean holding on to my investments forever. When I value a stock, I already have in mind how much the stock is worth and therefore already have an exit price in mind. The purpose of value investing is to purchase this stock at a significant discount from its value.

However, there could be times when the market is euphoric and the price of the stock surges way beyond what I have valued it at. At this point of time, I will reassess the company to see if I have left out any key news or factors which could be responsible for the increase in price. If my asessment of the company remains the same, I will sell the stock because there is no reason why I should not take advantage of the insanity of the market.

It is important not to be greedy at this point of time and keep increasing the exit price you have set. Have an exit price and stick to it.

The reverse is true also. Most people panic and sell when the price drops and that doesn’t make sense. When the price of a stock drops, check the fundamentals again. If nothing has changed, then your assessment of its value should be the same and this means that the stock is at an even greater discount then what you have previously bought at. In this case, you should take the opportunity to buy in more of this stock.

5. Keeping Cash with you when there are no good stocks to buy

There are many reasons for keeping cash with you when there are no good stocks to buy. Many people find it difficult to do that. The moment they have some cash in hand they want to buy some stocks because if they don’t, they feel that they are not in the market and thus not “investing”.

Also, keeping cash with you allows you to capitalize on sudden dips in the stock prices due to some market fluctuations which are not resulted from a change in the companies fundamentals. In these cases, you should average down and purchase more of that stock. The worst thing that can happen to you is not having cash to average down on a purchase which has now presented a greater discount then before, due to your need to always keep all your money in the market to “feel that you are investing”.

Summary

Investing is not just about the buying of stocks. The homework and preparation behind identifying which stock to buy is the true key factor for successful stock picking. Many people spend a lot of their time checking the prices of the stocks they have purchased several times a day. That time is better spent researching the company and its business. Ultimately, checking the price of a stock several times a day will have no influence on the price and the companies fundamentals. But I am sure many people are guilty of this, as I so clearly see in my workplace, where everybody has a small window opened up to check the stock prices every now and then.

Celebrity Booking Fees

Private bookings make up a nice portion of celebrity gigs these days. Private bookings can come from corporations, associations, wealthy individuals and more. Celebrities like doing these private engagements as it relieves them of having to rely on ticket sales to the general public. The gigs are also very accommodating to the celebrity from travel to meals and are usually laid back. Celebrities are often booked to celebrate an event such as a birthday, holiday party, but they are booked just as much if not more to entertain a corporation’s clients or employees at their annual party. This helps boost employee morale or enhance their bond with their customers.

Below is a list of what some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood make for a private engagement. Remember, these fees do not include travel, production costs, and other rider requirements. These fees are just what the celebrity is paid to perform. The buyer is responsible for covering all other costs associated with bringing the entertainer to their event.

Prices fluctuate a bit due to career swings, location of the event, date and other details.

– Carrie Underwood – $150,000 to $250,000

– Cher – $1.5 million

– Hall and Oates – $150,000

Investing: Warrant

A warrant is a specialized investment tool with its own language; call warrants, in-the-money warrants (a warrant with an exercise price which is below the market price of its underlying security), gearing and premiums are among the terms used. It's important to understand the main aspects of this vehicle before including it in your portfolio.

A warrant is a derivative, meaning it 'derives' its value from its underlying share. This is why the performance of a warrant will always depend on the performance of its underlying share.

A small movement in the price of the mother share can result in a surge or fall in the value of your warrant. Thus, expect this to happen and choose strategies that leverage and profit from this behavior.

Unlike a share, warrants carry an expiry date. The warrant tends to lose its value when it's close to expiring. Once it expires, it has no value and you lose the capital invested to buy the warrant. Buying and holding, as you would a share, is why 90% of warrant traders lose their capital.

If the underlying share price is above the warrant strike price (the predetermined price that the warrant holder is entitled to purchase or sell in the case of put warrant the underlying security), your call warrant is said to be in-the-money and you can exercise your right to buy the mother share at the strike (lower) price to sell at the market (higher) price.

There are costs involved when buying warrants – transaction costs and the time lag before you receive the underlying share after exercising the warrant. There're also occasions when a warrant trades at a discount. This incurs when the strike price and the cost to obtain the warrant are less than the price of the underlying share. Even tough this may look like an opportunity to make arbitrage profit, however, the risk of the underlying share price falling during the period between receiving the shares from exercising the warrant and their sale.

The whole process can take up to a month, during which the mother share can move in any direction. Warrants can also trade at a discount if the underlying share has just enjoyed spectacular run in price. Investors should avoid buying these discount warrants if they feel the high price of the mother share is unsustainable.

Warrants are the domain of short run traders. Some analysts recommend a particular trading strategy known as cash extraction. This strategy can be executed if you're holding a particular share that has appreciated in value. By selling the share and investing some of the proceeds into its warrants, you decrease your invested capital while maintaining exposure to further upside.

Many investors also trade in warrants because they sell at a fraction of the price of the underlying share and their leverage effect (a characteristic of warrants that enables the holder to enjoy larger percentage returns than the underlying security, at a lower price) allows the investors making bigger percentage gains when compared with conventional share investments.

For instance, share ABC may gain 30cent to close at $ 1.80, representing an increase of 20%, but a similar gain of 30cent for warrant ABC (from 50cent) to 80cent is an equivalent gain of 60%.

When the price paid for the warrant as well as its strike price is higher than the price of the underlying share, the warrant is trading at a premium. Meaning, the warrant's premium can crudely measure how much more expensive it is to acquire a share via a warrant compared with buying the share directly. Premiums are commonly used as a quick measure of the warrant's expensiveness. Because warrants are issued at a premium, investors must consider if it can appreciate to a level that allows recovery of the paid premium within the warrant's lifespan.

Another important factor to consider when selecting a warrant is volatility. A high volatility warrant, even tough more expensive, can very well generate more money than a low volatility warrant. High volatility means that the underlying share is more likely making big swings.

While warrants can offer a smart addition to a portfolio, keep in mind the following – your view of the underlying share is important; understand the unique nature of warrants and stay attentive to small movements in the market.

Is It Free? Business Opportunity

SFI (Strong Future International) does not require their affiliates to pay a membership fee or meet a purchase requirement. As long as an affiliate continues to long into the Affiliate Center he or she remains an active affiliate. Affiliates can make money by referring business owners to the E-Commerce Associate (ECA) Program at Triple Clicks, referring customers to the Triple Clicks store or referring people to become affiliates of SFI. These are all great ways to earn an income.

1. All affiliates are eligible to make Business Owner referrals to the Triple Clicks store,This will help earn Versa Points and lucrative royalties for life! Simply refer companies that sell products to the ECA Gateway. For each approved ECA, an affiliate can earn 10% of the CV on all of their sales at TripleClicks.com. Plus, an affiliate can immediately earn an 100 VP when their ECA generates their first $10 or more in sales. The ECA referral program is very powerful because all an affiliate has to do is introduce an ECA to Triple Clicks to start earning royalties for life! Every time anyone-anywhere in the world-buys something at Triple Clicks from an affiliates referred ECAs, an affiliate earns a royalty! A royalty is a direct commission equaling 10% of the total Commission Volume for all of their referred ECAs.

Tip #1: An affiliate should buy from their own referred ECAs to receive “rebates” their purchases.

Tip #2: Use a T Connect Website to refer customers to their ECA’s “store within a store”. With Direct Commissions and ECA Royalties, an affiliate can earn a handsome 55% of the CV on any sales generated!

2. SFI Pay-Per-Action Program (Available To All Affiliates)

All affiliates are eligible to receive commission from the pay per action program. Each time an affiliate gets another affiliate to sign up the affiliate could earn a bounty up to $10. The amount of the bounty varies upon the activity of their sign-ups. For example, SFI compares the average Versa Points scored by their sign-ups to the average Versa Points scored by all non-PPA-generated affiliates who joined SFI during the same month as their sign-ups. This comparison of averages helps ensure that legitimate sign-ups are being generated. Affiliates may also BONUSES:

*Earn an additional 50 cent bonus on any of the sign-ups from the United States or Canada.

*Earn an additional $8 bonus on any of the sign-ups that achieve the rank of Team Leader within 90 days of signing up.

3. Direct Commission From Purchases

Basic affiliates qualify to earn direct commissions on purchases made at the Triple Clicks store. Each time, a personally sponsored SFI affiliate or a personally referred Triple Clicks customer makes a purchase the sponsor earns 45% of the commission volume. Here is a good example:

Earnings Example: An order is placed by one of the personally referred TC members that has $23 CV and 1,725 VP. The affiliate earns a $10.35 Direct Commission (45% of $23) and 1,725 shares in the Triple Clicks Executive Pool.

Once the personally sponsored affiliate has been recruited by their sponsor could have a customer for life. A good way to encourage them to buy from the store is by offering them a $12 gift card, which only costs a $1.00. Another plus is that SFI takes care of all order processing, product shipments, and customer service at no cost extra cost to the affiliate, and pays a Direct Commission for every order placed by the customers

SFI is a business and will encourage their affiliates to invest. Is it smarter to work your business for free or to invest time and money?

The Top Seven Best Underground Rappers From The South

As I was watching BET the other night, some friends and I were having a discussion about the best underground rappers from the South. So I decided if I was going to make a list of the best, what is the one word I can think of to judge them by? And the word I came up with was consistency. Let’s see who on this list meets this criteria.

1. Pastor Troy- Residing out of Augusta, Ga & arguably one of the most controversial underground rap artist of his time. Pastor Troy stormed onto the scene with the 1999 with his smash hit single “We Ready” (I Declare War) attacking Master P, which some people say he successfully ended Master P’s rap career. No underground rap artist has released more music than Mr. Troy himself. With 23 albums as a solo artist and 3 albums with his group D.S.G.B in a 12-year carrier. No one can possibly disagree with Pastor troy being on the list.

2. Project Pat- This Tennessee representa was the main reason the song “Sippin on Some Sizzurp” by Three 6 Mafia was a hit. Known for his legal troubles with the law, Project Pat exploded onto the on his third solo album with the mega ton hit single off of the 2001 Mista Don’t Play album “Chicken Head”! This record was a classic in the South. With eight studio albums and ten mix tapes later. Project Pat is still a force to be reckoned with.

3. Bun B- Hailing out of Port Arthur, Texas, Bun B is historically known to the world as one half of UGK. Bun B is by far and I mean by far the most influential and lyrically acclaimed well-known rappers throughout the hip-hop industry. With a silky smooth baritone delivery Bun B will run circles around the average MC. The world as we know it found out just how cold he was on Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin” song off of the Life & Times of S. Carter album. That was by far one of the best verses on the song. With a classic album under his belt ” Trill OG” and three solo albums combined. There is no way we can deny the Under Ground King from being on this list.

4. BG- Born and raised in the mean streets of New Orleans, B.G. is one of the most underrated and forgotten about underground rappers from the south. But this man has a serious catalogue. From the albums Chopper City, It’s All on You Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, Get It How U Live and Guerrilla Warfare with the group Hot Boys, Chopper City In The Ghetto, & Checkmate, (all with Cash Money Records). To the Independent albums Living Legend, Life After Cash Money, The Heart of tha Streetz, Vol.1 & The Heart of tha Streetz, Vol.2 (I Am What I Am) and numerous other albums. With fourteen albums to his catalogue combined, ten as a solo artist & two as part of the Hot Boyz & two with Chopper City Boyz. B.G.’s catalogue speaks for itself.

5. Lil Boosie- Known for his gritty street rap style and his run ins with the law, Lil Boosie aka Boosie Bad Azz has been in the rap game for over ten years now. From his first debut feature on C-Loc’s 2000 album “It’s A Gamble,” to his first 2003 solo debut with Trill Entertainment “For My Thugz”. Lil Bossie has been consistent through out the years. Lil Boosie recorded two more solo albums, one in 2006 entitled “Bad Azz” and the other in 2009 called “Super Bad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz”. With several collaboration albums with label mate Lil Weebie under his belt, Lil Bossie has proven to be one of the best underground rappers from the South.

6. Young Buck- From Nashville, Tennessee, Young Buck first started out with Cash Money Records and eventually would end up leaving the label with label mate Juvenile in the year 2000 to go to UTP Records. But his carrier didn’t take off until he met NY rapper 50 Cent and then he later sign to G-Unit. Young Buck then featured on 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Trying album. He later on dropped “Straight Outta Cashville” where he released the smash hit single off of the album ” Shorty Wanna Ride With Me” and that established Young Buck as a force in the rap game. Young Buck is recognized as one of the best lyricist in the South by fellow rappers in the industry. With the release of “Buck the World” & Rehab. Buck has been consistent through out his up and down carrier.

7. Yo Gotti- From Memphis, Tennessee Yo Gotti first started out back in 2000 with his first album titled “From Da Dope Game To Da Rap Game” and has been making moves rap game for over ten years consistently. With five studio albums and seven mix tapes to his name. Yo Gotti has proven he has staying power and the wok ethic to stay relevant in the ever-changing rap game.

New Rap and R&B Music – Who is Releasing New Albums?

The world moves fast these days, and sometimes its just plain hard to keep up with the latest news on our favorite music and releases from our favorite artists. New rap and R&B music comes out nearly every week, and for those with a busy schedule, it can to be a time consuming task just to find out what’s new in the hip hop world. So here is a quick over view of what is happening in the hip hop culture today:

Kanye West continues to release chart topping hits such as Coldest Winter, Heartless and Robocop. Labels like GOOD Music and Def Jam Records continue to promote Kanye as one of the hottest names in new rap and R&B music. His latest album, 808s and Heartbreak, is scheduled for release on November 25th, 2008.

Another Def Jam Records artist that is scheduled for a new album release on November 25th is Ludacris. The new album, Theater of the Mind, contains hits like One More Drink featuring T. Pain. The video for One More Drink just became available on November 4th. Other tracks on the new album include What Them Girls Like, Call Up the Homies featuring The Game and Willy Northpole, and Wish You Would featuring T.I.

50 cent has a scheduled release date for his new album, Before I Self Destruct, of December 9th of 2008. Along with the release of the album comes the release of a coinciding movie. The current hit from the up and coming album, is Get Up, which is already available for purchase.

Releasing new rap and R&B music in November is Trick Trick, with his album, The Villian. The Villan is Trick Trick’s second album, and contains a re-make of Run DMC’s Together Forever, with special guests Kid Rock, Esham, and Proof. The album is scheduled to hit shelves on November 11th.

Jedi Mind Tricks also has a release date of November 11th for the new album, A History of Violence. Fans of this group are excited to see what the new album has to offer.

The Evidence will be releasing the album, The Layover EP, on November 25th. The hit single, For Whom The Bell Tolls, will grace the album and feature accompanying artists will.i.am, Phonte, and Blu.

November 4th brought about the release of Q-tip’s latest album, The Renaissance. The album was Q-tip’s first release in nearly ten years. Much of the album is based on the life of the hip hop culture, with some songs dedicated to friends that have passed away.

November is a big month for new rap and R&B music, with big name artists releasing long awaited albums. December seems to hold just as much anticipation for those who can’t get enough of the hip hop culture.

How Internet Makes Indie Music Promotion Easier

While the music industry is teeming with rags-to-riches story, anybody worth his salt will tell you that landing a record deal is difficult as hell. Talent is the easiest commodity to trade and discard under the kleig lights so if you think you can coast through your skills again, you’re in for a hard reality check. The Grammy Award winners and the top sellers all went through a period of hard work and even hunger pangs before they enjoyed the position they’re in now. Apart from the very lucky few, they all share a common experience: indie music promotion.

What does that mean? Basically, you sell yourself. Some artists might be picked up by a record label before they earn their reputation in the streets, that’s more the exception rather than the rule. The reality is, recording artists like Nelly Furtado (who first toured the local bars singing covers), rapper 50 Cent who did his bit as a mix-tape artist in the streets of New York and even the Beatles, who started in the indie music scene and honed their musical talents playing 12 hours a day in Germany, just to name a few.

Other musicians have joined indie music promotion bandwagon in busy streets through live performances, or bringing along a CD player and inviting random strangers to listen in and give their assessment. Of course, one or two instant fans may fork over the money to buy your CD. It’s a hard way to make a name for yourself and promote your music.

There’s no accounting the traditional way of touring the circuit– small bars, dingy diners and even honky-tonks to sell your tracks or CDs.

With the advent of the Internet, particularly video sharing sites like YouTube, the indie music scene has never been stronger. It’s a direct way to gauge public reaction and music reception by the number of hits your video gets.

You might be surprised to find out that there are websites dedicated to helping you earn money by uploading your songs or CD and allowing them to help you. Immediately after registration, they assign a crack team to give you all the edge you need. They also train you and provide you the necessary skills in the whole music-making process to increase your chances of success. Every successful CD, for instance, will be submitted to Neilson Soundscan, which is a software that tracks each music sold.

Now you know that record producers always follow the rabbit through the hole, where the trail of money is. Maybe a record label will notice but the main concept is to provide you leverage in the negotiation process. Instead of you begging for their affirmation, you get to dictate the terms especially if you are already thousands of CDs on the website, and that means you already have a captive audience.

Like all things in life, there’s no guarantee of success a record producer will take notice but the bottomline is you’re already earning money from your original compositions and also a share from the CDs sold by others on your team. Indie music promotion is empowerment to the highest degree and a much better route than toiling on the streets, begging for the attention of pedestrians too busy to care.

Banking Supplies Aren’t Just For Banks

Saying that I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire life is the equivalent of asking if a kid likes cake. Inspired by my late-great grandfather, I watched as he brought the first self storage facilities to Tulsa, Oklahoma and ushered in a new phenomenon.

Working with several partners, General Building & Supply Co. built apartment complexes, shopping centers, new home construction and self storage facilities for several decades.

This was considered a family business and I was expected to help out with making apartment units ready, doing odd jobs and mowing all of the grass plots for each property.

One year, my grandfather got the bright idea to get into the car wash business. One of my more fond memories, during those crazy summers, was getting to help count all of the change, put them into rolls and go to the bank.

I didn’t understand the concept of the machines and the sophisticated counting systems at the time, but have grown to appreciate how it’s helped my endeavors over the years. While my grandfather was helping create new properties, I was on the playground flipping Starburst, Now & Laters or Jolly Ranchers for a profit.

At the ripe age of 8, I was taking a 50 cent package of candies and turning it into $2.00. In today’s dollars and cents, it might be peanuts, but at the time it seemed like a fortune. Little did I know that this entrepreneurial bug would never go away and would follow me wherever I travelled.

I’ve created and dissolved more sole proprietorships, limited liability corporations and loose partnerships than I care to admit, but the more original ventures required bank bags, coin changers, change rolls and a host of ribbon tape for calculators, among other things.

At that time, getting my hands on those banking supplies was a bit tricky because they were mainly offered only to preferred banking members that had accounts with a lot of zeros.

I was just a small-time mom & pop operation that wanted to speed up my administrative obligations and focus more on networking and finding new customers. During my time as a sandwich shop owner, the banks gave me some leeway and let me have what I needed to keep the money organized and the change flowing for the video games.

When I ran my pre-packaged vending business, Eco Snacks, my main niche was setting up a booth at relevant trade shows. Trail Mix, Nuts & Candies would fly off the shelves because most of the events I paid the rental were ones that didn’t have food vendors. This would create a monopoly or at least, very little competition.

I did my best to keep the prices reasonable, but opted to go for whole dollar amounts, so my need for change would be limited. At these events, it was usually a one-man show setting up the booth, putting out the product and being there the entire conference. It exhausts me just thinking about those first handful of events I ran, where I was ill-prepared and didn’t have my act together.

Getting those bank supplies might have seemed like a nuisance, at the time, but in hindsight it kept me out of trouble and on-point, when it came to paying booth rental, invoicing customers and staying on track. In those types of environments, it’s easy to get distracted and lose focus. Having my own makeshift infrastructure in place definitely saved me time and money, in the long run.

In the ever-evolving world we live in today, one can go to a Staples or an Office Depot and find some of what you may need to run your concession stand, baseball card store or nail salon.

I still prefer to go with companies that specialize only in this niche. If I wanted a one-stop shop to get mixed nuts, printer cartridges or ink pens, a place like that would be fine. Many times, I find myself not necessarily knowing the best way to go about doing what I have set out in my mind. It’s good to speak to someone that’s knowledgeable about the products and can offer up suggestions on ways for you to be more efficient.

If I had known that I could get ropes and stanchions at a banking supply business, during my concert promoter days, I would have been totally set up for domination! Crowd control is extremely important, when promoting an event and having access to purchasing those items, as opposed to having to rent them for each show, would have saved me tons of money and given me a sellable asset that I could use, once my concert promoting days had passed. But, alas, hindsight is always 20/20, right?

Gas Prices Are Skyrocketing Again!

After a few months of declining oil and gas prices, our wallets are being stung again. Yep, gas prices are skyrocketing again, and this time we must fight back! There seems to be a contradiction as to why prices have risen in the past 30 days. On the same day Iraq announced it may need the United States to stick around because the declining price of oil was making it financially difficult to rebuild, a strange thing happened. Oil prices began to rise again! Of course, gasoline was quick to follow. We are lucky here in the Ozarks. Our gas prices are usually among the lowest in the country. Even so, a 50 cent rise over a 30 day period is ridiculous! Sure, the Memorial Day weekend always spikes prices a little bit, but 50 cents a gallon? This is strictly greed causing this increase, and we have to take some action.

Last year there was great interest in learning to make your car use water as fuel. Of course, running a car on water alone is still not possible, but using water to create a catalyst is very real, and very effective. The do it yourself HHO boosters can increase gas mileage by 20, 40 and even 60%. Sometimes even more! Now, this may not be like getting gas for free, but it sure creates a nice savings. The only way to drive down gas prices is to buy less gas. Low demand is the only thing oil companies seem to understand.

You can easily use the power of water fuel technology to run your car. By installing an HHO conversion kit to your car you will increase mileage, help clean up the environment, and save several hundred dollars over the course of the year. This technology continues to improve, and it is to a point where using HHO as a catalyst is considered 100% safe for any car or truck.

With gas prices skyrocketing again we just have to do something to get big oil’s attention. By installing an HHO conversion kit to your car, you will cut your gasoline consumption drastically. If everyone would do the same the demand for gasoline would be so low the oil companies would be forced to lower their prices!
